Why Kenny Pickett Will Never Start a Game For The Pittsburgh Steelers

Listen, I don’t make the rules. I just write them down and enforce them.

One of those rules is that rookie QBs don’t start week 1 in the NFL, no matter what pick they were drafted. Couple that with Mike Tomlin's win now mentality and you can basically guarantee that Mitch Trubisky is going to be the starter week 1 of the 2022 NFL season.

This all spells bad news for Kenny Pickett.

Why? Well as you may know I am president of the Mitch Trubisky fan club and can’t imagine a scenario where he doesn’t take the QB 1 spot and run with it.

With two good QB’s in the quarterback room this is an example of who gets the first chance. I think both can succeed in the black and gold but Trubisky is going to get the first shot at it simply because he isnt 24 years old with no NFL experience.

Trubisky’s situation in Chicago with Matt Nagy was about as bad as it could get yet he still made the playoffs twice and earned a pro bowl selection in 2018. Give him Mike Tomlin, proven NFL god, and I think the stars are going to align.

Make no mistake about it, the Steelers drafted Pickett because there was value in getting him at the 20th pick, not because they needed him.

Mike Tomlin will not care if he is wrong about that draft pick if the Steelers still win games.

If Trubisky starts hot you really think Tomlin is going to pull him because he feels obligated to use his first round pick? Blasphemy. Mitch Trubisky will go at least 10-7 with a playoff win this year which will earn him the starting role again in 2023. He will parlay that good season into another good season and become the bonafide starter of the future. The Steelers will be forced to trade Kenny Pickett after 2 great seasons by Mitch Trubisky.

Listen- I am a die hard Steelers fan but could care less about the Pitt Panthers which allows me to see this situation clearly while the rest of you are stuck in some fantasy where you get to watch the QB who turned around the Pitt program do the same for the Steelers. It ain't gonna happen.

No offense Pitt fans, but my highschools JV team could win the ACC coastal.

Barring an injury to Trubisky or me being completely wrong about his talent, Kenny Pickett will be traded by 2025 and Mitch Trubisky will be the Steelers QB of the future.
