Football Phrase pt. 3: "The game is won or lost in the trenches"

Football is a game of skill. It requires strength and wit of both the individual and of the team. The coach must be respected. The quarterback must lead. They need to convince the guys around them to go to war play in and play out for 60 minutes. The fundamentals of the phrase "The game is won or lost in the trenches" transpires from exactly that; war. World War I to be exact.

Football was not a multi-billion dollar business when it started. In fact, it was one of the least respected sports one could play after college mainly because it was the exact opposite of what the Sabbath was intended to be. Men that loved the sport would use pseudonyms to not be recognized by acquaintances at their games (not that anyone really attended). It wasn't until World War I, when truly skilled players from college were all on the field together raising millions (1918 MILLIONS) for the war effort that someone decided to monetize football into todays NFL.

The fundamentals remained the same. The offensive and defensive lines are what makes or breaks a team. Whether they can run it up the gut or protect their passer, mano-y-mano who has the better advantage with speed, elusiveness, and of course overall strength.

The Eagles control the trenches well from an offensive and defensive line standpoint. But those boys are MOTIVATED by their guy Jalen Hurts. He's in the locker room squatting 700 to get that extra yard on a sneak and praying with the team on field before the game, all while being THAT DUDE on the field.

Big night for Philly to dominate the trenches and cover that MASSIVE 14 point spread. Fly Eagles Fly.
