What is Deg?

It all started roughly over 10 years ago in my childhood home in Center Township, PA. My younger brother and I were doing what brothers do, just making each other laugh. In between jokes/punches I slipped up trying to say "Whattup Dog" and said "Whattup Deg" and my brother absolutely LOST it, I did not think anything of it at the time and pretty much let it go after the day.

The next day and ongoing weeks that is all my brother can say is "whattup Deg" this "whattup Deg" that to the point where I was saying it too and it ended up being a secret brother gang between myself and my two brothers aka "The Degs".

After a few weeks of just us knowing we decided to let in a few of our close friends. To ensure that it would be kept a complete secret we had to come up with some sort of code/symbol to represent Deg, because at the time we did not even want to mention it out loud to people because it was that much of a secret (really dumb but lowkey hilarious to think about).

We'll start with the hand symbol, one of the coolest (my opinion so fuck you) hand symbols one could give.

Simple, cool as shit and discrete enough to not make that big of a scene when flashing it through the hallways of Central Valley Middle and High School.

Eventually, my brother and I (pictured) had to expand the Deg empire to more than just a few friends. Slowly we let damn near our entire friend groups in.

Which, when you start to tell a handful of people the more people they start to tell. At points during high school random classmates who heard about it through someone would want to get honored into the Degs. To truly be a Deg you have to have one of the originals (myself and my brothers) "Deg" you but with so many people knowing and those are deserving one can get the honor through words.

Next, we decided that the % symbol would mean Deg for when you wanted to write or text it, no real story behind it just a few 10-13 year olds thought % looked the coolest.

Our final code we decided on was the number. One day in High School after a night riding around Potter Twp (sayin) we stopped at the local Center McDonalds (GOAT McDonalds) to grab some soft serve. I swore on my life that 2 cones was going to equal out to $1.04 and my brother was NOT believing me, so finally I go to order and say "Lemme get two 49 cent cones and that's everything." The cashier says "okay your total is $1.04 please pull to the first window." and my brother was snorting he was laughing so much just yelling Deg Deg Deg. Eventually we decided that 104 was the perfect number to use because of how stupid the discovery of Deg was and how stupid the 104 story was.

Eventually, I went off to college and spread the good word of Deg to the campus of Slippery Rock University, leaving my younger brother to hold the Deg name alone in Center Twp. He exceeded every expectation and fear that I had, not only did a lot of people know about it but they appreciated the dumbass story behind it and how lowkey deep it was to my brothers and I. At one point during his senior year his teacher heard him and his friends talk about Deg so much she had to ask about it, and rather than say the dumbass story, on the fly he says "Deg, Do Everything Good." and the teacher absolutely loved it and so do I. She actually made him a hoodie that says "Deg Do Everything Good" on it

The true meaning of Deg is to do everything good and just live life with a smile on your face and a positive attitude. For my first blog I wanted to give the origin story of how Deg came to be. With the Deg brand, blog and more I want to bring my positive, dumbass and funny outlook on life to light and let more people get into my brain and my Degs' brain.
