Hello Deg Show family. Typically I stick to more lifestyle and self-help/motivational blogs but I will be coming at you every day there is an NFL game with a breakdown of a common phrase used by announcers in football. You, the reader, can use this knowledge to impress friends and coworkers, win a trivia night at your local watering hole, or even make the game less confusing for your girlfriend. Let's get started
"Set the Edge"

Definition: Describes the ability of a perimeter defender (mainly OLB and DE, but can be a CB if the play design is drawn up for it) to keep the ball carrier from running outside of the offensive tackle.
This is my personal favorite technical phrase in football. It is utilized from a defensive standpoint and really shows how effective a team is at containing the run and funneling everything into the meat of the defense. As a bonus term, the player that sets the edge is known as a force player (bad ass football/Star Wars crossover) because he forces the run back inside by blocking access to the outside alley.
TJ Watt is probably the best example of a dominant force player. Teams don't run the ball to his side during games because it will most likely fail or get bounced inside. As an added bonus he forces passes the other way as well by biding his time in pressure and quickly reacting to and batting
down passes thrown into the flat.
Please tweet me suggestions for more terms, I've compiled a list from the Deg Show team but can always use input from the readers! Talk to yinz tomorrow
